KIER was asked to assist with the installation of 2km of 160PE electrical conduit for the installation of the Calleya Estate HV Feeder cable in the Perth Metro South East Region. KIER utilised its Vermeer 36x50DRii with 210m of drill rods in order to complete 200m drill shots (2 rolls of conduit) at a time. The project was completed in just over 11 days with an average daily throughput of 200m including all road crossings and pipe link-ups.

KIER is currently involved in the construction of several Fibre Distribution Areas (FDA) across multiple Fibre Serving Area Modules (FSAM) for the NBN in and around Perth Metropolitan Area, Western Australia. The work is on brownfield sites, where next to the new installation of pits and conduit, the existing telecom infrastructure needs to be tested and repaired. The KIER civil works in these areas are currently proceeding within budget and ahead of schedule.

A 25km underground (infill) sewerage reticulation pipe network in and around Robertson, NSW. The project required the installation of a gravity and pressure pipe network, pump station, sewerage treatment plant and storage dam. Robertson lies within the Sydney Water Catchment area, resulting in strict environmental controls. The location and heavy rainfall during the project also resulted in a high water level meaning substantial dewatering was necessary.

KIER Scope of Works

  • Excavation and laying of 150mm - 300mm PVC gravity sewer pipe at depths from 1.5 metres to 6 metres, including dewatering, placement of house connections and restoration.

  • Installation of HDPE pressure sewer (up to 315mm) through directional drilling techniques.

  • Installation of access chambers to the sewer network.

  • Earthworks and installation of a 10 metre deep pumping station (3.6 metre diameter).

  • Excavation and construction of a 1.5km rising main connecting the pumping station to the newly built sewerage treatment plant.

KIER was contracted to perform all site works on a 1 acre block in Bedfordale, WA. The site consisted of substantial areas of rock which needed to be broken out. KIER also needed to import around 500m3 of clean sand for the residential and garage sand pads. The site was completed ahead of schedule and with no changes to the costs for the client.
